The Canadian government has announced $132,000 in funding for SEREX (Service de recherche et d’expertise en transformation des products foresters), run by the Amqui college centre for technology transfer (CCTT), to acquire specialized equipment for compression testing of wood fibre packaging materials.

The investment will allow the Amqui CCTT to test the technical properties of products developed from wood fibre, and help implement projects with small and medium sized enterprises. It will also help SEREX improve its capacity for innovation and technology transfer, and create one new job.

SEREX specializes in forest product recovery, sustainable chemistry, biomass energy and green building.

“CED’s support will enable SEREX to acquire a test bench that can measure the load-bearing capacity of moulded handling pallets made from sawmill waste and other recycled materials. This unique equipment in Quebec strengthens SEREX’s ability to support innovative businesses interested in having their waste materials integrated into a circular economy,” said Patrick Dallain, executive director, SEREX, in a press release.
